Health Innovation West Midlands (HIWM) works with health and care organisations across the West Midlands to support improvements in patient safety.

As one of 15 Health Innovation Networks in England, HIWM hosts the West Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative (PSC), working with NHS England and partners across the region to support the delivery of the National Patient Safety Improvement Programmes (SIPs).

Patient Safety Collaboratives play an important role in identifying, testing and spreading safer care initiatives from across the NHS and industry, supporting their adoption and implementation across the health and care system. Through collaboration, quality improvement and shared learning, we work with local teams to improve patient safety and support sustainable improvements in care.

Our work is currently focused across four programmes:

• Maternity and Neonatal Safety Improvement Programme (MatNeoSIP)
• Medicines Safety Improvement Programme (MedSIP)
• System Safety Improvement Programme
• Managing Deterioration Safety Improvement Programme

Together, these programmes support the ambitions of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy and contribute to a culture of safety, continuous learning and improvement across health and care.
