Innovation Exchange events showcase innovations with the potential to impact on a specific challenge or challenges relevant to the invited participants.

This online event, delivered by Health Innovation East Midlands and Health Innovation West Midlands will showcase innovations with the potential to help people with learning disability to avoid harm from psychotropics used for behaviour that challenges.

Recognising the need for proactive care planning and shared decision making with patients and their carers and advocates, we will showcase digital and technological innovations that can contribute to efforts to delivering improvement for people with learning disability in the following areas:

  • Communication between patients, families and caregivers and health and social care professionals
  • Shared care planning and making reasonable adjustments
  • Access to the entire pathway of care for behaviour that challenges
  • Identification of people who could benefit from de-prescribing psychotropics
  • Upskilling / training for healthcare professionals to approach de-prescribing psychotropics using shared decision making
  • Multi-disciplinary team working and communication between services
  • Provision of non-pharmacological support for the management of behaviour that challenges
