NHS digital leaders are invited to an exclusive innovation event hosted by SCC

Health Innovation West Midlands and SCC are bringing NHS digital leaders together for a focused, strategic session exploring how responsible innovation can strengthen cyber resilience, support sustainable digital transformation, and deliver measurable benefits for Trusts across the region.

Net Zero | Cyber Resilience | Practical AI Adoption

This regional session is designed to support NHS priorities around Net Zero delivery, patient safety, and practical digital transformation through collaboration.

The day will focus on three interconnected themes:

1. Net Zero & Practical AI – From Proof of Value to Real Impact

This session will explore how NHS organisations can use AI and data driven services to support Net Zero ambitions while also improving operational efficiency.

What we will cover:

  • An overview of SCC’s AI Proof of Value (PoV) offer for the NHS, designed to help Trusts safely test and validate AI use cases before scaling — with clear success measures, governance and assurance.
  • Examples of NHS relevant AI use cases already developed, focused on productivity, automation and data driven decision support.
  • A live demonstration of the FOI AI use case, showing how AI can:
    • Reduce manual effort and response times
    • Improve consistency and auditability
    • Operate within strong information governance and security controls

We will also explore AI enabled and data driven estates use cases, including specialist solutions for remote monitoring of fridges and electrical assets. These examples show how AI and analytics can support:

  • Energy efficiency and waste reduction
  • Early fault detection and reduced reactive maintenance
  • Cold chain assurance
  • Wider Net Zero and sustainability objectives

The focus is on practical, measurable outcomes, not theoretical AI.

2. Cyber Security – Good Cyber Practice as a Patient Safety Enabler

This session positions cyber resilience as a core patient safety and service continuity issue, aligned with national policy and NHS priorities.

What we will cover:

  • How NHS organisations are moving towards a more continuous understanding of cyber risk, rather than point in time assessments.
  • How Active Cyber Defence and good cyber practice:
    • Reduce the likelihood of service disruption
    • Protect clinical systems and patient data
    • Enable safe digital transformation and collaboration
  • An overview of SCC’s investments in cyber security, including people, platforms and operational capability.
  • A tour of SCC’s cyber facilities in CV1, providing a real world view of how cyber operations support resilience at scale.

3. Sustainability & Circular IT – Turning Legacy Assets into Innovation Funding

This session demonstrates how sustainability can deliver both environmental and financial value.

What we will cover:

  • A guided tour of SCC Recyclea, showing circular IT in practice — from secure data erasure through refurbishment, resale and recycling.
  • A real NHS example from University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM), where:
    • Legacy IT equipment was securely processed
    • Over £100k of value was generated
    • Funds were reinvested into a Tech Fund supporting digital and AI initiatives
  • How this model helps Trusts:
    • Offset carbon and support Net Zero ambitions
    • Reduce waste and cost
    • Create new funding streams without additional capital investment

We will also highlight Rigby Group’s wider regional investments and how these support NHS social value commitments, including initiatives addressing poverty, hunger and digital exclusion.
